What is Health and Wellness Coaching?
As a Health and Wellness Coach, I partner with motivated clients who are interested in making lasting changes which will enhance their health and wellness. I empower women to define the lifestyle modifications they desire and design the path they will follow to accomplish their goals. Fulfilling the roles of both collaborator and cheerleader, I meet routinely with clients to walk their journey with them - discussing challenges, tapping into strengths to tackle obstacles, creating support systems, reframing negative self-talk for success and celebrating achievements along the way. This approach allows clients to shift away from the vicious cycle of quick-fix solutions and moves them into a mindful and active role in their lives.

How is Coaching Different from Counseling?
Counseling is an important service from which many individuals, couples and families benefit. Counseling deals with healing pain, dysfunction and conflict within an individual or in relationships. The focus of counseling is typically on resolving difficulties arising from the past that hinder an individual's emotional functioning in the present. I worked for nearly 20 years in the mental health field and have witnessed the growth and healing of hundreds of counseling clients. Their counseling work allowed them to move forward in their lives with stronger, healthier relationships, improved coping skills and the capacity to make safer choices.
Coaching takes a different approach. Coaching supports personal and professional growth based on self-initiated change in pursuit of specific outcomes that clients determine for themselves. While positive feelings and emotions may be a natural outcome of coaching, the primary focus of coaching is on creating actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in one's personal or professional life. The emphasis in a coaching relationship is on action, accountability and follow through.
In my coaching work, I will discuss with clients when I think they can benefit further from counseling support. I am well-versed in counseling resources in our community and will offer my insight to clients as requested. There may be situations when accessing counseling prior to initiating coaching work is more appropriate. With each situation, I operate from the framework of what will best benefit the client.
